SALIENT is hiring!

Date posted: 4 July 2023

The SALIENT consortium are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Food System Environmental Modelling on an ESRC funded project to model the environmental and health co-benefits of food system behavioural interventions, working to understand the benefits and consequences that different food system interventions may have at the UK system scale and for whom they work. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a large multi-disciplinary collaboration named SALIENT: Food System Trials for Impact on Environment, Nutrition, and Health. SALIENT is an ambitious cross-university research consortium supported by DEFRA, FSA, DLUHC, DHSC, and DfE. The goal of SALIENT is to implement behavioural interventions in real-world settings with food system partners, and then investigate how these interventions might scale to deliver benefits and impacts at the system-scale. SALIENT aims to deliver evidence on the interventions that work to shift behaviour towards healthier and more sustainable outcomes, for whom these interventions work, and in what settings they work. This position is an integral role in SALIENT, as it will scale up evidence gained during the behavioural interventions to the entire UK system, investigating their potential system-wide benefits and consequences on environment and health.

The successful candidate will manage their own academic and administrative responsibilities. You will design and run scenario models of health and environmental outcomes of food system trials at different scales of the UK food system. Other duties including communicating with other members of the SALIENT consortium, including to coordinate modelling analyses with leaders of the behavioural interventions.  You will prepare, and collaborate in preparing, scientific papers. You have the opportunity to embed principles of mutual respect, equality, diversity, inclusivity, integrity, and responsible conduct in all aspects of your work.
You must hold, or be close to completion of, a relevant Ph.D./D.Phil in a relevant subject. You will possess background expertise and research experience in food systems.
